Welcome to WOW

Waters of Wales (WoW) is a community of independent campaigners for legislation enshrining public rights of responsible access to inland water in Wales, within a framework of wider land reform legislation similar to that passed in Scotland in 2003.

WoW`s core aim is for one voice to fully represent the Public interest of modern legislation enshrining rights to water-based recreation, within a framework of wider land reform, whilst providing appropriate information for individuals to make considered responses.

The community currently communicates via social media and email.

Waters of Wales - WoW will continue to campaign to Welsh Government for public rights, with appropriate responsibilities, to be enshrined in modern legislation, as happens almost everywhere else in the World.

The time is NOW and YOU can be a part of it.

Who are WOW?

The Waters of Wales community includes a range of water-users including swimmers, walkers, birdwatchers, photographers and boaters.

WoW stands for responsible and sustainable access to the Waters of Wales for all, free of unnecessary restrictions, whilst respecting the environment, wildlife and other people.

The Issue

Public enjoyment of the Waters of Wales can be contentious, but this has not always been the case.

There are acknowledgments of a Public Right to use water prior to 1750. There is no overall or encompassing statute which extinguishes pre existing rights.

History of Access to water

The inland waters of Wales were carved long before the emergence of modern society.

Historically, much as they do today, our rivers, lakes and estuaries provided opportunities for transport, commerce, sustenance, and recreation.
